Hey there everybody, it’s Ruby from Ruby Rae Reads here!
I saw somebody else do this tag and it reminded me a lot of the mid-year freak out tag which I’ve already done over on my own blog. So I thought HEY, I should do it for Pink Blots!!
Also, yes, there are still a few months of the year left but oh whatever it’s FINE.
Without further ado let me stop rambling and get into the questions.
You can find the original tag here < 3
1) Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?
Huh, it’s funny you ask this question because YES there is one. And I’m ashamed that I haven’t finished this book yet. The first book of the series was one of my favourites of last year and I picked up book two a couple months ago. I was having a great time but then halfway through I started getting super anxious because of certain characters *cough cough* and didn’t… want to finish it. Sabaa Tahir likes to torture our emotions and I know that there is a giant cliffhanger at the end of A Torch Against The Night so… I am going to finish it, hopefully soon, because I hate being literally halfway through and I don’t want to forget the first bit and have it taint my enjoyment. But I’m also still super scared because I don’t want my babies to die haha. Gahhh!!
2) Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?
Okay, I have NO IDEA what my answer to this question should be. But I’m currently (very slowly) rereading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater and having an AWESOME time. I feel like everybody is reading this series and I was not going to be left out. I forgot how much I loved this series. I love these pretentious idiots with my whole soul and the book sort of has autumn-y feels (??) with the forest and eerie vibes, like Halloween. I might be strecthing it a bit but oh well. Anyways back to my faves. I forgot how iconic this book was. All of the characters are literal MOODS™ and I love it. Maggie’s writing style is brilliant.
I am not going to try and describe the synopsis of this book, just know there are psychics and Welsh kings and it’s a grand old time. I highly recommend if you haven’t read this series yet and my body is ready for this reread. If you weren’t aware the first book of the spinoff series Call Down The Hawk is coming out in November and gosh so excited.
3) Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?
This question seems pretty like vague (I might just be stupid though so) so I thought I’d divide into two sections!
Heartstopper Volume 2 by Alice Oseman: this book came out back in June I think it was, and I absolutely ADORED the first volume. It’s such a cute gay graphic novel and I just can’t get enough. I adore Alice Oseman and her art style is lovely. I’m just so excited to continue on and find out what happens in Nick & Charlie’s story *inserts a million heart eye emojis AND dies of cuteness*
Franky In Love by David Yoon: this book just recently came out and has been getting so much buzz. And OH MY GOSH I am so flipping excited to read it. I’m here for the fake dating gloriousness and it sounds sorta similar to To All The Boys. It just sounds so good and I cannot wait to read it!!!!
♥ ♥ ♥
Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell (24 September 2019): Shall I do any post without mentioning Carry On? No, I shall not. But yes, OF COURSE, THIS BOOK IS HERE. I have absolutely zero chill because it’s out *smashes keyboard*
Call Down The Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater (5 November 2019): I have already mentioned this book in this post but hey here we are again. This is one of the only two books I care about (the other is obvious) for the rest of the year. I am shall be hibernating until they come out. A girl is ready to feast her eyes upon these glorious books!!
4) What are three books you want to read before the end of the year
↛ Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend
This book has been on my TBR since it came out, I even got an ARC. My siblings have read and loved it. And I just… have no excuses anymore. And I plan on reading it super soon. I just know I’m going to feel all the magical feelings. I really love middle grade and have been in a bit of a Harry Potter mood and this book is described as similar to HP. READ IT RUBY READ IT!
↛ The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare & other authors
I am currently three Cassie books behind and it has been stressing me OUT. I planned on reading this before Red Scrolls of Magic came out but I, um, didn’t. This is BAD LUCK. But this book is sitting on my nightstand and I plan on slowly making my way through each story. I actually am super excited about learning more about Magnus Bane and I hear there are a couple of really good stories that include the TID gang (which is my favourite trilogy of all time if you didn’t know). It is just about time I read this book and it WILL
(get it?! dumb joke Ruby) HAPPEN!!
↛ Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds
I had never heard of this book before until it came out and the publisher sent me an unsolicited copy and I have just been meaning to get to it ever since. I’ve been following the author on social media and he seems so nice. He even commented on my photo and I just really want to read his book. It’s a contemporary and seems like it has some sort of time travel element, which really intrigues me. I just really want to read it because I have a feeling I’ll really love it.
5) Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?
I have pretty solid favourites this year so I don’t know if any books can top my top three BUT there are some I definitely can make my top ten at least.
↛ Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody
I have been meaning to read this book ever since it came out. It immediately gave me Six of Crows vibes which I love. Plus it just sounds so awesome and I just really want to read it. I’m actually buddy reading it with a friend which I haven’t done in ages. I just have a feeling I’m going to be OBSESSED with this book. I doubt it’ll top my already established favourites but who knows
(Carry On and Red, White & Royal Blue disagree with this). All I really know is that there are gangs and a Vegas-like setting. Plus I heard one of the main characters is bisexual which is really cool. I’m just very pumped to read it!
↛ The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan
This is also a book I would like to read by the end of the year and just haven’t gotten around to. I was super hyped to read it when it came out last year but I have been putting it off because I know it’ll be super sad and I just don’t tend to stay away from those. Not because I don’t like them, I just get really upset when other people are in pain and it takes a lot out of me. But yes, I need to read this book. It just needs to happen. I want to fall in love with the lyrical writing style and beautiful story. Somebody prepare the tissues though because ya girl is not ready to cry!
6) Have you already started making reading plans for 2019?
I don’t have too many actually. I’m going to uni next year so I don’t know how many books I’ll have to read. I’m also deciding whether or not I want to take English Literature which obviously means I’d have to read a lot for that class.
But apart from that, one thing I want to do is listen to more audiobooks. I’m going to be doing a lot of driving in the city so I know they’ll be useful to read more.
I also haven’t decided if I want to increase my reading goal, we’ll have to see. This year’s goal was 40 books and that’s going well, I truly do not know how busy I’ll be next year.
And those are all the questions. Have I just realised how many books I still want to read this year? Yes. Where am I going to find time to read them I do not know. Why do we have to do finals again?
yes I know, it’s so I can finish school but STILL
Do you like tags? Have you done any? If you haven’t done this one, consider yourself tagged.
